Live By The Sun – My Favorite Album From This Year

Table of Contents

Love by the Moon and Live by the Sun is a concept album from the band’s The Killers. The album was released in May of 2021 via the major record labels with many different people singing and performing on it. The album contains a number of songs, most of which were re-recorded from their 2021 album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day. The album’s lead single, “Love by the Moon,” is an amazing guitar-based ballad about love and its meaning. While it doesn’t really have any vocals, it’s an amazing song that just about everybody should hear.
Frontman Ryan Kershaw sings about being in love: with a girl who has a bad habit of sleeping in front of the mirror. The girl is called Sweetheart and was at one point in the song’s history revealed to be the singer/dancer girlfriend of one of the band’s members, Trace. This revelation was shocking to the other members of the band. They suspected Sweetheart of being gay. That suspicion is still prevalent throughout the song. The lyrics reveal that the girl still loves him though and that he would do anything for her.
One other amazing track on the first disc: is the duet between guitaristied and singer Kershaw and bassist Knowles. In this song, they’re singing about being together as a couple, but also they’re talking about starting a family. It’s a very romantic song about beginning a new life. It’s definitely a high point of the album. One thing about that song is that the instrumental part makes the entire song worth listening to.
As the band begins to sound more like: a band and not just a bunch of guys playing in front of a few amplifiers, their sound takes on a completely different quality. The instrumentals sound fuller and the lyrics seem to carry a much more meaning. The first verse of that first song is “I put a spell on you” and the second is “I can feel your heart”. It’s just an amazing opening line.
On the album, there’s a song called Mystery Train: This song introduces the listener to the main character of the album, Matt Helders. He plays the guitar for most of the song and sings the lyrics. It’s really great how he comes across as a real person. During the second verse of the song he says he’ll see the world and he talks about meeting girls, but doesn’t say anything about seeing his future wife.
Overall, I really enjoyed this first single from Live by the Sun: The album isn’t perfect but it’s definitely a high point. While it’s not everything everyone would expect from a Nick Cave album, it’s definitely a great start to what he will be creating. I highly recommend this song for anyone who’s a fan of his or loved him growing up.
